Biography

Muna Al Taweel joins the Graduate Student Life team as the Graduate Professional Assistant for Graduate Student Leadership and Advising. She has spent much of her graduate career working in various advising and teaching roles for graduate students both in public universities and private education and advising centers. She serves as an advisor to the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA).

She is a doctoral candidate in Cultural Studies at George Mason University. She graduated from Yarmouk University in Jordan with a BA in English and an MA in Literature and Criticism with a concentration on Literary Trauma Theory. Her main focus of study was the literary representation of trauma in 21st century Syrian Literature. 

Her current work examines politics of identity, nationalism, and politics of space in the Levant region, and how modes of activism and resistance have evolved after the events of the Arab Spring. She is currently working on a dissertation project examining the ways in which governmental and military institutions in the Levant utilize public space/place to construct narratives of identity and belonging. Her project focuses primarily on Jordan.
