Biography

Elisabeth “Betsy” M. Scotto-Lavino (she/her/hers) is the graduate professional assistant for Graduate Diversity Engagement and Leadership with Graduate Student Life. She is a doctoral candidate in International Education at George Mason University, with concentrations in metacognition, Women and Gender Studies and arts-based research. Betsy’s dissertation topic is researcher reflexivity with a focus on the experience of critical and creative thinking. She has also worked as the Director of Education and Research for a local art foundation, focusing on supporting professional artists, community art programs, and creating a digital platform to connect creatives and art enthusiasts. Prior to her PhD experience, Betsy was an ESL educator in the Fairfax County Family Literacy Program and the Northern Virginia Community College adult education program. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking, swimming, and chasing her two needy dogs.
